Unique in all the world, this massive ancient fossil is for sale with a buy it now or best offer. It is possibly the largest example of a freestanding completely petrified cypress tree base in the world. You really have to stand next to it to get the full effect. It’s incredible!!
It’s creation and formation would have been a rare event. It’s not hard to imagine this large cypress tree being buried during a massive inland tsunami. Possibly the Chicxulub impact.
This would make an excellent addition to any prehistoric display.
I found this tree in North East Texas behind a very old Estate. From the information I have, we believe it was dragged out of a forest near there and put behind the old home as a decoration. This happened over 100 years ago in 1908-1910. It sat there all this time half buried and on its side. So no one except the homeowners knew it existed.
I had to purchase a special hydraulic tilting trailer and mounted a powerful electric winch on it. I then used a harness and snatch block to slowly draw it up on the trailer. We barely made it! It just happened to be raining and that helped it slide up a little easier. It weighs tons!
We have not had it formally identified as of yet but the consensus is that it is Cypress. It is solid and was not reconstructed from pieces like the CALLIXYLON TREE in Oklahoma.
It is not brittle and will not break or fall apart. Those cracks and marks you see are on the surface only. You would have to use a jackhammer to break it apart. I know this because I have handled it and it’s strong!
It shows signs of having quartzite mineralization but we are not willing to alter or slice it to see what it looks like inside.
It is truly a natural treasure.
As of 8-7-2021 I have over 26k views and 129 watchers on the listing so I believe it’s only a matter of time.
I have had a lot of interest from different institutions but most are looking for donations.
